The Rutgers University Chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) was originally founded as The Minority Engineering Educational Task (MEET) in 1975 at the College of Engineering of Rutgers University in Piscataway, New Jersey. The creation of the organization was to provide academic and social support to minorities who are studying to obtain technical degrees from Rutgers University. In 1976, MEET was recognized by Rutgers University as an official student organization and in 1979 becomes the official Rutgers chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE).

NSBE, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1975, supports and promotes the aspirations of collegiate and pre-collegiate students and technical professionals in engineering and technology. NSBE offers its members leadership training, professional development activities, mentoring, career placement services, community service opportunities and more. NSBE comprises 515 active chapters — 288 collegiate, 82 professional and 145 pre-collegiate — located in six geographic regions. NSBE is governed by an executive board of college students and engineering professionals and is operated by a professional staff at its World Headquarters, located in Alexandria, VA. Learn more and visit their website here.
